Ultrarunning Coach
Being coached by Trena has transformed my running! Trena is the coach in your corner, the ace up your sleeve. Under her tutelage, I did speedwork for the first time in my life and began to feel like a real athlete. She also made sure I rested. Both speedwork and resting were not what I thought ultratraining would look like, but it made all the difference! I also learned that coaches are not just for elite runners. Trena’s help, from the mundane (hydration packs, socks, headlamps, anti-chaffing products, etc.) to the strategic (type of races, training, pace, hydration & fueling, pacers & crew, etc.), has been and still is my secret weapon. And thanks to that, this 50-year-old, back-of-the-pack runner, accomplishes all my running goals. I finish all my races including my first 100 Miler – The Vermont Endurance Race. I was mentally and physically ready, prepared to the teeth for all eventualities. And as the “shit began hitting the fan” – nonstop - throughout the 29:37 hrs that it took me to finish VT, I beat all the odds because I knew exactly what to do. My “Master Yoda’s” teachings had made me the smartest runner I could possibly be.

Who would ever think to run their first 100-mile race at 56 years old? Well, that is how it worked out for me. After competing in a variety of sports, coupled with a motorcycle crash, well, I knew that if I really wanted to run 100-mile race (and trust me, you have to really want it), then I would need a coach that would understand my limitations. Most of all, I wanted a coach that would be honest with me. In comes Coach Trena. Dealing with adversity is the name of the game in ultrarunning. This is something Trena has taught me well and to address issues before they get out of hand whenever possible.
For my first 100-miler, it was amazing! This is one of the biggest accomplishments of my life and I can honestly say, I could not have done it without Trena.
